Formula 1 to cancel Bahrain and Jeddah Grand Prix races due to Middle East instability
International media reports indicate that Formula 1 is preparing to cancel the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, originally scheduled for April 12 and April 19, respectively. The decision, expected to be officially announced within 48 hours, is attributed to the ongoing instability in the Middle East. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has stated that the priority is the safety and well-being of all participants. Officials have ruled out replacing these two races with new events due to logistical constraints and limited time for preparations. Consequently, the 2024 Formula 1 calendar will be reduced from 24 to 22 races. The cancellation will create a significant gap in the schedule, as the season transitions from the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29 to the Miami Grand Prix on May 3. This break will exceed the duration of the traditional mid-season summer pause. The reduction in the total number of races is expected to increase the significance of every point in the championship standings.
