Driver sentenced for fatal hit-and-run in Paphos
A 26-year-old man was sentenced to a maximum of 14 months in prison by the Paphos District Court following a fatal road collision. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on November 5, 2023, on Ikarou Street in Paphos. The victim, 33-year-old Goga Partsvania from Georgia, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road as a pedestrian. Following the collision, the driver abandoned his vehicle and left the scene without providing assistance. The victim was transported to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Approximately two hours after the accident, the 26-year-old driver returned to the scene while police were investigating and admitted his involvement. The court found him guilty of causing death through a reckless, careless, or dangerous act and leaving the scene of an accident. The court imposed concurrent sentences of 12 and 14 months, a 12-month driving ban, and eight penalty points on his license.
