Cypria auctions to hold 20th century Cypriot art sale in March 2026

Cypria Auctions will host the 20th Century Cypriot Art Auction on March 19, 2026, at 7:30 pm. The event will take place at the Cypria / Gallery K premises in Nicosia. A total of 149 lots, including paintings, sculptures, mixed-media works, rare books, and exhibition catalogues, will be presented. The auction coincides with Cyprus's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, an event described by director Ritsa Kyriakou as an opportunity to highlight local artistic heritage. Several artists featured in the collection have previously established auction records for Cypriot art. A highlight of the sale is the monumental work The Tired Thespians (2000) by Andreas Charalambides, which is estimated to reach between 35,000 and 60,000 euros. The event aims to demonstrate the evolution of Cypriot artistic expression throughout the twentieth century. While the organizers emphasize the works' historical and market significance, the auction also serves as a platform for cultural dialogue within the European Union.
