Third vehicle lane opens at Agios Dometios crossing

A third checkpoint and traffic lane became operational at the Agios Dometios crossing point in Nicosia on Friday. This expansion completes construction works that concluded within the Green Line on 16 February. The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cyprus. The upgrades include an additional lane in each direction and a new pedestrian path intended to improve daily cross-border movement. Konstantinos Yiangou, deputy mayor of Agios Dometios, stated that local officials expect police to provide sufficient staffing to allow all three lanes to operate simultaneously when necessary. Cypriot police confirmed that the new checkpoint will function daily, contingent on traffic volume. The infrastructure improvements are part of ongoing efforts to facilitate transit between the divided areas of the city.
