Eurostat reports 2024 life expectancy data for Cyprus and the EU
According to 2024 Eurostat data, life expectancy at birth in Cyprus reached 83.55 years, ranking the country fourth in the European Union. By gender, life expectancy in Cyprus is 81.5 years for men and 85.6 years for women. The average life expectancy across the European Union is 81.5 years, showing a 0.1-year increase compared to 2023. This figure marks a recovery, as life expectancy had previously declined during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, but now exceeds 2019 levels of 81.3 years. Spain holds the highest national life expectancy at 84 years, followed by Sweden at 83.8 years and Italy at 83.7 years. At the regional level, the Community of Madrid recorded the highest life expectancy at 85.7 years. Conversely, three of the five regions with the lowest life expectancy in the EU are located in Bulgaria, specifically Severozapaden (73.9 years), Severen Tsentralen (74.9 years), and the North-Eastern region (75.4 years).
