Diko finalizes parliamentary candidates for 2026 elections
The Democratic Party (DIKO) has officially finalized its candidate lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 2026. In the Nicosia district, the party is fielding 19 candidates, while 5 candidates have been selected for the Paphos district. The list of candidates in Nicosia includes prominent figures such as party president Nikolas Papadopoulos, Christiana Erotokritou, and Chrysis Pantelidis, alongside various professionals and local officials. The Paphos list features journalist Natasa Ioannou, Andry Konstantinidou, Chrysanthis Savvidis, Kyriakos Simou, and Panikos Skordis. The official presentation of the candidates was set for March 16, 2026, at the POED hall in Nicosia. According to reports from Cyprus Times, party leader Nikolas Papadopoulos faced difficulties in finalizing these lists, noting that the selection process was challenging due to concerns regarding potential loss of parliamentary seats and internal pressure. Currently, the party holds 9 seats in the parliament, and the selection process involved deciding on 56 candidates nationwide.
