Eurostat reports fourth quarter 2025 labour market trends for Cyprus and the EU
In the fourth quarter of 2025, approximately 5,000 unemployed individuals aged 15 to 74 in Cyprus transitioned into employment, a slight decrease from the 6,000 recorded in the third quarter. Eurostat data indicates that the employment rate for people aged 20 to 64 in Cyprus rose to 82.1 per cent, up from 81.5 per cent in the previous quarter, marking the largest quarterly increase among EU member states. This performance placed Cyprus above the EU average of 76.3 per cent. While 3.1 million people found jobs across the EU, 6.9 million remained unemployed and 3.4 million exited the labour force. Larger economies like Spain, France, and Germany saw increases in the number of people transitioning from unemployment to work, while countries like Greece, Italy, and Portugal recorded decreases. Currently, Malta, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic report the highest employment rates in the bloc, whereas Italy and Romania face the lowest. Overall, employment rates rose in 11 member states, remained stable in five, and declined in 11, with Luxembourg seeing the sharpest drop of 1.1 percentage points.
