Akrotiri evacuation order lifted by authorities
The Cyprus Interior Ministry, in consultation with competent state authorities, has decided not to extend the evacuation order for the Akrotiri municipal district. This decision concludes an 11-day evacuation period that was initially implemented following a suspected Hezbollah drone attack earlier this month. Local authorities, including the Mayor of Kourion and the Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, have been officially notified of the change in status. Despite the lifting of the evacuation order, the government states that the region remains in a state of heightened alert. Civil Defence teams will continue to maintain a presence in the area through ongoing patrols. Officials emphasized that the security situation will be subject to continuous reassessment to ensure that further measures can be activated promptly if necessary. The ministry maintains that this approach aims to balance public safety with the resumption of normal activities in the district.
