Fatal stabbing of 20-year-old in Kalamaria leads to criminal investigation

A 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the Kalamaria area of Thessaloniki on Thursday night. A 23-year-old suspect, a supporter of the Aris football club, turned himself in to police on Friday and has been charged with intentional homicide and illegal weapon possession. The suspect claims he acted in self-defense, alleging he was attacked by a group, while investigators are examining the incident as potentially linked to sports rivalry. Two other individuals who were with the victim are currently being sought by authorities and face charges of aggravated bodily harm. The victim, reportedly a PAOK supporter, died from severe blood loss due to a chest wound. The funeral for the victim is scheduled for Sunday at 13:00 at the Agios Vasileios church in Sykees. The defendant is being held in custody and is expected to testify before an investigating judge this coming Tuesday. Authorities have ruled out any connection to groups targeting alleged pedophiles.
