Cypriot Foreign Minister holds talks in the UAE amid regional tensions
Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos visited the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to meet with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties in economy, trade, and investment, as well as addressing the regional security crisis. Both officials discussed the repercussions of missile attacks attributed to Iran, with Kombos expressing solidarity with the UAE. The UAE reported that it remains active in de-escalation efforts while maintaining a cautious diplomatic stance that avoids hosting military operations against Iran on its soil despite previous attacks on its infrastructure. Kombos is scheduled to provide a detailed briefing on these diplomatic efforts to the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels this Monday. Additionally, the Cypriot presidency has coordinated meetings through the Integrated Political Crisis Response (IPCR) mechanism to discuss the broader impact of the Middle East crisis, including energy security and migration. The situation remains fluid as both nations continue to navigate complex diplomatic channels.
