Suspect shot dead after truck crash at West Bloomfield synagogue
On Thursday around 12:30 p.m. local time, a male suspect drove a truck through the entrance of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The suspect traveled down a hallway within the building before being confronted by security personnel. A firefight ensued, resulting in the suspect being shot dead, though authorities have not yet confirmed if he was killed by security fire or took his own life. One security officer was struck by the vehicle and hospitalized, but is expected to recover. CNN reported that investigators found a large quantity of explosives in the suspect's vehicle, which remains under search by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. No children or other staff members at the synagogue’s early-childhood center were injured during the incident. Children were evacuated to a nearby location to reunite with their parents. FBI agents and local law enforcement are currently investigating the scene.
