Limassol resident loses over 100,000 euros in recurring online scams
A 76-year-old resident of Limassol reported a cyber fraud incident to the Limassol Police on March 12, 2026. Between February 13 and March 3, 2026, the victim was defrauded of 48,260 euros. The individual had previously fallen victim to a similar scam in May 2025, during which he lost approximately 56,000 euros. In the latest incident, perpetrators posing as lawyers contacted the victim, claiming they could recover his previously lost funds. The scammers convinced the victim to grant them remote access to his bank account via the AnyDesk application. Under the guise of covering taxes and other charges, the suspects initiated five unauthorized bank transfers from the victim's account. The police are currently investigating the case involving the total loss of over 104,000 euros.
