Cyprus Fire Service reports 2025 statistics and service upgrades
The Cyprus Fire Service responded to 13,401 incidents in 2025, marking a 4.94% increase compared to 2024. Chief Fire Officer Nikos Longinos stated that total incidents included 7,154 fires, 5,259 special services, and 988 false alarms. Statistics show a 4.31% increase in urban fires and an 8.81% increase in rural fires. Officials noted that 1,180 rural fire calls occurred outside operating hours, leading to calls for rural stations to move to 24-hour service. For the upcoming summer, 13 aerial assets will be available for firefighting. During the year, 10 fatalities were recorded in fires, with nine in the Limassol district and one in Nicosia. Additionally, 1,691 elevator rescues were performed as part of the special services. Minister of Justice and Public Order Constantinos Fytiris emphasized the priority of strengthening civil protection services, including the hiring of new firefighters and infrastructure upgrades.
