Cyprus trade deficit analysis for January 2026 and 2025 performance

According to the Statistical Service, Cyprus's trade deficit for January 2026 reached 476.6 million euros, marking a decrease from 707.5 million euros in January 2025. Total imports for January 2026 declined by 13.6% to 994.1 million euros, while total exports rose by 16.6% to 517.5 million euros. Imports from EU member states stood at 554.3 million euros, with 439.8 million euros from third countries. January 2026 imports included ship ownership transfers valued at 79 million euros, while exports included similar transfers worth 193.5 million euros. For the full year 2025, the trade deficit increased to 8.28 billion euros from 7.39 billion euros in 2024. Main exports for 2025 included mineral fuels and oils at 2.33 billion euros, halloumi cheese at 356.9 million euros, and pharmaceuticals at 356.2 million euros.
