Cyprus Minister of Justice assesses security risks amid regional conflicts

The Minister of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus, Costas Fytiris, stated that while the risk of the country being targeted by terrorism is very low, the government remains in a state of readiness. During a press conference, Fytiris noted that while he cannot completely rule out the risk of terrorism, Cyprus has rarely been a target over the past 30-40 years. He attributed this relative safety to the country’s role as a long-standing hub for humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. The authorities have implemented discreet security measures to protect critical infrastructure, adjusting to current geopolitical developments involving Iran, the United States, and Britain. Fytiris emphasized that the security level in Cyprus remains high, both internally and within its maritime and aerial space. He also addressed organized crime, noting that recent statistics indicate successful enforcement actions and full prison capacities. The government seeks to promote a message of stability both domestically and internationally to protect the economy and public confidence.
