Trial begins for 33-year-old man accused of attempted murder in Tersefanou

The Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca held a preliminary hearing on Thursday for a 33-year-old man accused of attacking a 40-year-old man in Tersefanou on January 18. Prosecutors have leveled charges including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, assault, possession of an offensive weapon, burglary, and harassment. The incident was reported by a 46-year-old woman, who stated the suspect entered her apartment via a balcony door. According to the complaint, the suspect assaulted the 40-year-old man, retrieved a meat cleaver from the kitchen, and used it to inflict multiple injuries. The suspect allegedly also threatened the woman, who managed to escape to the building's parking lot while being pursued. During Thursday's proceedings, defense attorneys requested more time to prepare the plea, prompting the court to reschedule the case for March 20. The defendant remains in custody awaiting the next court session.
