Cyprus cabinet approves expansion of student grant program
On March 12, 2026, the Cyprus government announced an increase in the student grant budget to 62 million euros. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Council of Ministers approved a bill to modernize student support, which will now be sent to the House of Representatives. Key changes include a 5,000-euro increase in all family income eligibility brackets. Additionally, a 10% increase in grant amounts is planned for families with an annual income of up to 44,000 euros. For families with five or more children, all income and asset criteria for grants have been removed. This initiative follows the political directive presented by President Nikos Christodoulides on February 5. The measures aim to support families facing increased educational and living expenses.
