Cyprus government evaluates potential intervention in fuel pricing
On March 12, 2026, the Cypriot government announced that it is monitoring fuel prices in response to potential unjustified increases. Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that authorities are evaluating data to determine if measures, such as a price cap, are necessary. Energy Minister Michalis Damianov confirmed he is in continuous communication with the Ministry of Finance to monitor the situation. Officials emphasized that intervention would only occur if price hikes or fuel shortages are found to be inconsistent with actual market conditions. Meanwhile, President Christodoulides is scheduled to meet with UN Secretary-General Guterres on March 18 and will also hold talks with European Commission President von der Leyen. These discussions will take place on the sidelines of the European Council. The government maintains a stance of readiness to implement targeted support measures for citizens if deemed essential.
