Drone flight ban issued around Ercan airport
Authorities in the northern part of Cyprus have announced a ban on the operation of drones and similar unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the vicinity of Ercan airport. This directive, issued on March 12, 2026, is intended to ensure flight safety at the facility. The restriction applies indefinitely to the areas surrounding the villages of Lurucina, Tymvou, Afania, Palaikythro, Assia, Arsos, Melousia, Mora, and Agia. Individuals found in violation of this regulation will face legal consequences. While the Greek Cypriot press describes the facility as illegal and refers to the northern authorities as the 'police' in the occupied territories, the notice originates from the administration currently controlling the area. The order remains in effect until further notice to maintain air traffic security.
