Sek concludes 30th pan-cyprian congress and re-elects leadership
The 30th Pan-Cyprian Congress of the SEK trade union concluded on Friday, March 13, 2026, in Nicosia. Andreas Matsas was re-elected as General Secretary, and Panikos Argyridis was elected as Deputy General Secretary, both without opposition. Other leadership appointments included Giannis Tsouris as General Organizer, Savvas Koulas as General Treasurer, and Charalambos Avgousti as Secretary of International and Public Relations. During the event, delegates approved a four-year policy document aimed at improving workers' rights and socioeconomic conditions. President Nikos Christodoulides attended the proceedings and discussed government initiatives regarding pension reform, tax reform, the minimum wage, and the Cost of Living Allowance (ATA). Matsas emphasized the importance of collective bargaining agreements for all sectors to ensure wage improvements and labor dignity. The congress also addressed the ongoing impact of the crisis in the Middle East on the local labor market and institutional cooperation. The union affirmed that the resolution of the Cyprus problem remains a national and social priority.
