Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz comments on Cyprus security

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz stated that Turkey remains committed to protecting the Turkish Cypriot community in the context of rising tensions in the Middle East. Speaking before an AKP parliamentary group meeting, Yilmaz addressed concerns regarding the security of Northern Cyprus following recent regional conflicts. He alleged that there has been a significant military buildup on the Greek Cypriot side, which he claims endangers the entire island. Yilmaz characterized the 1974 Turkish military intervention as a peace operation that ensured security for the whole island. He asserted that the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces has provided a stable environment for over 50 years. Additionally, the Vice President reiterated support for the principle of sovereign equality for both sides on the island. Turkey maintains its position as a guarantor power and intends to continue taking necessary measures to support the Turkish Cypriots.
