Cyprus Academy of Sciences proposes a committee for artificial intelligence in education
On Wednesday, the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts proposed the formation of a committee to oversee the integration of artificial intelligence into all levels of education, from kindergarten to university. Former Minister of Education Andreas Demetriou and University of Cyprus professor Antonis Kakas presented the initiative to the Parliamentary Committee on Education. The proposed committee would include representatives from the Academy, the Ministry of Education, and Parliament. The initiative aims to provide guidance for the constructive and safe adoption of AI technologies in schools. Andreas Demetriou announced that a conference on the subject will be held this autumn to gather expert opinions. Professor Antonis Kakas emphasized the importance of maintaining traditional reading habits alongside the use of AI to ensure the continued development of critical thinking. The Parliamentary Committee on Education, led by Pavlos Mylonas, expressed full support for the proposal. The initiative intends to address challenges associated with the rapid development of AI while ensuring students remain engaged with literature and analytical thought.
