ETEK calls for immediate implementation of new measures for listed buildings in Cyprus
The Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), led by its president Constantinos Constantis, has expressed its support for the Ministry of Interior's new initiatives regarding the management of listed buildings. These measures include increasing the maximum recognized cost for building restoration and streamlining the licensing process. A core component of the proposal is the creation of a unified registry for the transfer and purchase of building coefficients. ETEK emphasized the urgency of these actions following a partial collapse of a listed building within the walls of Nicosia this past Sunday. The Chamber argues that current decay in several historic structures poses significant risks to public safety and cultural heritage. Consequently, ETEK has urged the government to expedite the legal adoption of these measures. Furthermore, the organization officially requested the formal institutionalization of mandatory regular building inspections to prevent future structural failures.
