Cyprus completes first operational use of EU GOVSATCOM services

On Wednesday, the Cypriot Ministry of Defence announced the first successful acquisition and operational deployment of secure satellite communication services via the EU's GOVSATCOM Hub. Cyprus has been connected to the system since its initial launch in January 2026. The GOVSATCOM initiative is managed by the European Commission and implemented by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). The hub's operations were established following a decision by all 27 EU member states. Currently, the system pools secure satellite resources from France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain for use by all EU member states. Specifically, Cyprus utilized Greek satellite capacity provided by Hellas Sat. These services were employed by Cypriot government users for security and protection purposes. The Ministry emphasized the efficiency and security of the system in meeting national communication requirements.
