Cyprus government employment data for February 2026
The Statistical Service of Cyprus reported that government employment reached 55,331 individuals in February 2026, representing a marginal increase of 35 people or 0.1% compared to February 2025. Employment in the Public Service declined by 0.9% to 22,977, while Security Forces staff decreased by 0.5% to 13,772. Conversely, the Educational Service recorded a 1.8% increase, totaling 18,582 employees. Indefinite-term employees increased by 1.6% to 9,626, whereas fixed-term employees saw a 0.9% decrease to 6,283. A significant 85.4% drop in fixed-term staff within the Security Forces, falling to 39 individuals, was attributed to the expiration of contracts in July 2025. Indefinite-term staff in the Educational Service saw a notable rise of 25.2% to 1,184. For the period from January to February 2026, average total government employment rose by 0.3% compared to the same period in 2025.
