European Union and France initiate humanitarian aid operation for Lebanon
The European Union has announced an emergency humanitarian aid package for Lebanon to address the ongoing crisis, with support also highlighted from France. According to the European Commission, more than 680,000 people have been displaced in recent days due to the intensifying hostilities. The aid includes food, medical kits, shelter materials, and winter clothing. The World Food Programme (WFP) will distribute 404 tons of food to over 90,000 individuals through a joint EU-WFP funding mechanism. Additionally, an EU humanitarian air bridge will deliver medical and non-food supplies from Copenhagen to UNICEF, aimed at assisting over 100,000 vulnerable people. Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stated that the initiative is intended to support those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Aid will be managed by EU partners, including the WFP and UNICEF.
