Fatal bus fire in Kerzers, Switzerland

On Tuesday, a bus fire in the town of Kerzers, located 20 km from Bern in the canton of Fribourg, resulted in the deaths of at least six people. Three other individuals were hospitalized with injuries, while two additional people received medical attention without requiring hospitalization. Police spokesperson Frederic Papaux stated that preliminary evidence suggests the incident was a deliberate act by a person on board. Spokesperson Christa Bielmann confirmed investigators are reviewing reports that a passenger poured fuel on themselves before igniting it. Media reports, including a video from the outlet 20 Minutes, also suggest a passenger set themselves on fire. Authorities have stated it is too early to determine if the incident is linked to terrorism. Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed his condolences and confirmed that an official investigation is underway.
