Investigation launched following death of teacher who reported bullying
A 57-year-old English teacher, Sofia Christidou, passed away in Thessaloniki due to a hemorrhagic stroke. Before her death, she had filed formal complaints alleging months of bullying by students at her public school. In a report dated February 6, she detailed incidents of verbal abuse, threats, and physical harassment, including students throwing objects like bottles filled with liquid at her. The teacher had also requested to be transferred from the school over the past three years. Following her death, the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal prosecutor ordered a preliminary investigation into the alleged offenses. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education has launched a Sworn Administrative Investigation to examine the circumstances and conditions at the school. Sources indicate the teacher sought intervention from educational authorities, even suggesting the presence of security measures on campus to ensure her safety.
