Reports of flashes in the sky over Cyprus linked to Middle East conflict
Recent sightings of flashes in the night sky over Cyprus have caused public concern, with citizens questioning whether the island is under threat. Military sources and experts have clarified that these phenomena are not local attacks but rather the result of ballistic missile launches from Iran toward Israel and subsequent intercept attempts by Israeli air defense. Due to the high altitude of these events, which can exceed 150 kilometers in the exosphere, they are visible from Cyprus despite the hundreds of kilometers distance. The Earth's curvature allows for the observation of these exo-atmospheric interceptions. Astrophysicist Chrysanthos Fakas explained that modern missiles reach extreme speeds and heights, moving through space. The Cypriot Ministry of Defense confirmed that there is no threat to the island, noting that all electronic surveillance systems are on high alert. The ministry emphasized that any suspicious object heading toward Cyprus would be detected within 15 minutes. Public anxiety was further compounded by reports of an incident at British bases on March 2.
