Developments in the Vasiliko LNG terminal project

During a meeting of the Parliamentary Energy Committee on Tuesday, the Public Natural Gas Company (DEFA) announced a decision to launch a pre-selection tender for contractors for the Vasiliko LNG terminal. DEFA chairman Giorgos Asikalis confirmed that a six-month extension has been granted to the project coordinator, Technip, to complete the overall design. Furthermore, DEFA plans to apply to the Central Committee for Changes and Claims to approve funding for risk assessment studies. Asikalis reported that valve systems and a nitrogen production unit have been installed on the floating storage and regasification unit 'Prometheus', which is currently in Malaysia, at a cost of under one million euros. Despite these updates, CERA officials noted during the session that under a worst-case scenario, natural gas delivery might not occur until 2030. Members of Parliament raised concerns regarding ongoing project delays and the role of consultants throughout the development process. Chairman Kyriakos Hatzigiannis formally requested an investigation into the consultant arrangements.
