Guide to vehicle immobilization procedures in Cyprus
Vehicle owners in Cyprus who intend to stop using their vehicles for a period or indefinitely can apply for an immobilization license. This process is managed by the Department of Road Transport (RTD) or Citizens' Service Centers. Applicants must ensure that all road taxes are fully paid up to the month of immobilization. If the vehicle is immobilized before the paid road tax expires, the owner may be entitled to a refund for the remaining period. A new application is required for each separate immobilization period. To resume vehicle use, owners must pay the road tax, while ensuring that the vehicle's inspection certificate (MOT) and the driver's license are valid. Applications can be submitted online via the official website at www.mcw.gov.cy/rtd, or in person at the RTD office located at 27 Vasileos Pavlou Street, Engomi, Nicosia, reachable at 22807000.
