Agia Napa implements first smart parking project in Cyprus
On March 9, 2026, the Municipality of Agia Napa began a trial installation of vehicle detection sensors at the Melissi parking facility. This initiative is part of the national Smart Cyprus project, coordinated by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy. Agia Napa is the first municipality in Cyprus to adopt this technology. The system uses sensors to track parking occupancy in real-time, allowing users to locate available spaces through a mobile application. In addition to navigation, the app will support payments for parking fees and potential fines. Mayor Christos Zannetou noted that the project is part of a broader strategy to modernize municipal services. Future plans include the expansion of these sensors to all municipal parking areas. The municipality also intends to implement other Smart Cyprus components, specifically smart lighting and waste management solutions.
