Criminal prosecution ordered for fatal traffic accident in Aglantzia

The Legal Service of Cyprus has ordered criminal prosecution against a 24-year-old driver involved in a fatal road accident that occurred on July 29, 2025, in Aglantzia. The victim was 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios. The collision occurred when the victim was attempting to make a right turn at traffic lights on Larnakos Avenue. The other vehicle, carrying the 24-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger, was traveling from the opposite direction and collided with Antoniou's car, which subsequently struck the traffic lights. An investigation and expert traffic reconstruction indicated that the 24-year-old was driving significantly above the 50 km/h speed limit. Police submitted the case file with several charges, and the Legal Service has confirmed that the case will be brought to court shortly. The authorities have spent several months conducting a thorough investigation into the specific circumstances of the crash.
