Cyprus energy minister attends nuclear energy summit in Paris

On Tuesday, Cyprus Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Marios Damianou represented President Nikos Christodoulides at the 2nd Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris. Damianou stated that EU member states agree on the need for a secure, affordable energy system to bolster European industrial competitiveness and climate goals. He emphasized that the EU must respect the right of individual member states to determine their own energy mix. According to Damianou, energy security and diversification can be achieved by combining renewable sources with nuclear energy. He stressed that any nuclear usage must adhere to high safety standards and full transparency. Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of investing in infrastructure, flexible grids, and workforce training. Following the summit, Damianou scheduled meetings with executives from TotalEnergies. He also noted that the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU is actively pursuing progress on the union's legislative agenda.
