MEP Loukas Fourlas presents European Parliament report on 1974 crimes to UN Secretary-General

MEP Loukas Fourlas, a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York. The meeting took place during the 70th UN Commission on the Status of Women. Fourlas presented a European Parliament report detailing abuses against Cypriot women allegedly committed by the Turkish military during the 1974 invasion. The report contains testimonials and evidence regarding sexual violence and other acts of inhumanity. During the discussions, Fourlas urged the UN to contribute to the historical acknowledgment and international recognition of these crimes. He stated that the victims deserve justice and support from the international community. This document is intended to highlight a long-standing issue within the Cyprus conflict. The delegation utilized the occasion of the UN assembly to advocate for the official review of these historical accounts.
