President Christodoulides coordinates with European leaders ahead of the European Council
President Nikos Christodoulides participated in a teleconference with a group of European leaders to discuss European economic competitiveness and industrial base strengthening. The meeting was initiated by the Chancellor of Germany, the Prime Minister of Italy, and the Prime Minister of Belgium, following a previous session held in February in Alden Biesen. Discussions covered energy prices, the completion of the single market, and the reduction of bureaucratic burdens for businesses. Additionally, President Christodoulides held a separate telephone conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa. This discussion focused on regional developments in the Middle East and their impact on the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe. These topics will be integrated into the agenda of the upcoming European Council scheduled for March 19-20. President Christodoulides is expected to provide a detailed briefing to EU member state leaders on these regional matters during the summit. The European Council will also address defense, security, and migration alongside economic competitiveness.
