Data on Ukrainian refugees under temporary protection in the EU as of January 2026

According to Eurostat data from January 31, 2026, there were 4.38 million citizens from non-EU countries who fled Ukraine receiving temporary protection across the European Union. This figure represents a 0.5% increase, or 23,110 people, compared to December 2025. Germany hosted the largest number of beneficiaries with 1,260,230 people, followed by Poland with 965,990 and the Czech Republic with 397,185. While 23 EU member states reported an increase in beneficiaries, four countries recorded a decrease. Cyprus hosted 24,230 individuals under temporary protection, which equates to 24.7 people per thousand inhabitants, placing it fourth in the EU regarding population ratio. This number in Cyprus reflects a decrease of 1,235 people, or 4.8%, compared to the end of 2025. The largest total increases were recorded in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Spain, while the most significant decreases occurred in Poland and Cyprus.
