Limassol municipality conducts gender-focused urban safety evaluation
On March 8, International Women's Day, the Municipality of Limassol organized an urban walking assessment titled 'On-site evaluation of gendered urban design in the city center'. Approximately 80 participants, primarily women, walked from the Limassol Town Hall to the Municipal University Library accompanied by Mayor Yiannis Armeftis. The participants filled out questionnaires at ten designated points, identifying issues such as poor lighting, inadequate sidewalks, obstacles like obstructive bollards, and restricted access for strollers and wheelchairs. The event concluded with a performance by the municipal female philharmonic band and a speech by Mayor Armeftis. The Mayor announced that this initiative marks the beginning of a permanent participatory mechanism for public space evaluation. Municipal services are tasked with processing the findings and presenting an action plan within 15 days. Additionally, the municipality highlighted ongoing policies, including a 50% reduction in municipal taxes for single-parent families.
