Paphos tourism outlook and strategic planning for 2026-2028
Michalis Mitas, president of the Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP), stated that local officials expect to recover tourism losses caused by regional instability through ongoing rebookings. Mitas emphasized that Cyprus remains a safe destination and anticipates stabilization in the near future. The strategic plan for 2026–2028 focuses on diversifying air connectivity to ensure year-round flights and promoting thematic sectors such as sports, weddings, wellness, and agrotourism, particularly targeting visitors over 55. Development efforts include creating eco-routes and walking trails, as well as digital infrastructure upgrades and improved accessibility for people with disabilities. Rural tourism in the Polis Chrysochous area remains a specific focus for the board. Despite optimistic projections, the sector faces persistent challenges including seasonality, labor shortages, and water scarcity. Additional issues identified by stakeholders include insufficient public transportation connecting urban and rural areas, high operational costs, and inconsistencies in service quality.
