Teacher files complaint over medical evaluation process for disability status
A teacher with a rheumatic condition has filed a formal complaint with government authorities, the Cyprus Confederation of Organisations for Disabled People, and the Cyprus Federation of Patient Associations regarding her disability evaluation. Since 2016, the teacher has sought inclusion on special education lists, but she claims the evaluation process is fundamentally flawed. She reported that her initial assessment occurred without a rheumatologist present. Upon requesting a panel change, she was evaluated in Limassol by orthopedists rather than a rheumatologist. The teacher alleges that the committee conducted only a brief interview, ignoring her provided medical imaging and history. She further noted that authorities told her the results were disregarded regardless of the specialist presence. The case has highlighted broader concerns regarding the treatment of invisible disabilities and the lack of standardized protocols in state medical evaluation panels.
