Cyprus Writers Union to participate in World Poetry Day event in Athens

The Cyprus Writers Union (CWU) has announced its participation in an event organized by the Panhellenic Union of Writers (PEL) to celebrate World Poetry Day. The event is scheduled to take place on March 24, 2026, at the House of Cyprus in Athens. The CWU will be represented by members of its Board of Directors who will deliver a greeting and recite poetry. Since 2024, the current CWU board has prioritized international cooperation with various literary organizations, including the Turkish Cypriot Union of Artists and Writers and the European Writers' Council (EWC), of which it has been a member since 2002. Despite these efforts, the union faces significant financial challenges regarding travel and accommodation expenses for cross-border literary exchanges. A funding application submitted by the CWU in December 2024 failed to receive a high score, complicating future collaborative plans. Additionally, the organization expressed concerns regarding the loss of the EWC General Assembly meeting. Strengthening ties with Greek literary associations remains a key objective, contingent upon securing necessary resources.
