Diplomatic tensions follow Cyprus president's visit to Moscow

Government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides criticized the remarks as interference in the country's internal affairs. Tensions escalated on Sunday when the US ambassador linked the state visit to the murder of Boris Nemtsov in a social media post. Following this comparison, Cypriot authorities formally requested the ambassador be recalled. The visit resulted in the signing of several bilateral agreements, including new provisions for military cooperation between Russia and Cyprus. Official receptions were held at the Russian embassy to commemorate the strengthening of these diplomatic ties.
