UK conducts defensive air operations in the Middle East

On March 9, 2026, the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon jets intercepted unmanned aerial systems during the night. One drone threatening Jordan was neutralized, while another heading toward Bahrain was intercepted. UK officials reported that RAF assets, including Typhoon and F-35 aircraft, are conducting defensive patrols across the region to support allies, including the United Arab Emirates. To bolster these efforts, additional air operations specialists have been deployed, and more Wildcat helicopters have arrived at British bases in Cyprus. Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that the destroyer HMS Dragon will depart from Portsmouth for the Mediterranean within the coming days.
