Violence erupts at Ibrox following Scottish Cup match between Rangers and Celtic
Celtic secured a spot in the Scottish Cup semifinals by defeating Rangers 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at Ibrox Stadium. After the match, fans from both teams invaded the pitch, leading to physical confrontations and the deployment of security and police to restore order. Police Scotland reported that officers and security staff were subjected to hostility and physical attacks, with some individuals carrying weapons. Both police officers and members of the public sustained injuries, and arrests have been made. Prior to the match, authorities noted that fans attempted to enter the Broomloan Road stand without tickets, which caused security delays and temporary closure of turnstiles. Police Chief Superintendent Kate Stephen condemned the behavior as unacceptable and called for witnesses to contact authorities at 101. Reports also indicate that a member of the Celtic coaching staff was allegedly attacked during the pitch invasion.
