Tufan Erhurman comments on the deployment of six Turkish F-16s to Cyprus
Following the arrival of six Turkish F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems at the Gecitkale airport (referred to by some sources as the illegal Ercan airport), Tufan Erhurman issued a statement regarding regional military tensions. Erhurman addressed criticisms from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, who had categorized the deployment as an aggressive move against Europe. Conversely, Turkish officials stated the move was intended to strengthen the security of Turkish Cypriots. Erhurman stated that he does not consider it appropriate to engage in war rhetoric during a period of high regional instability. He emphasized that his priority is the safety of both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. He further noted that the underlying reasons and consequences of these military developments will be subject to a detailed discussion in the future. He concluded by maintaining that his party remains committed to the safety of the entire island.
