Cyprus launches updated housing schemes for rural and remote areas
On March 2, 2026, the Cyprus Ministry of Interior initiated revised housing schemes aimed at revitalizing rural, mountainous, border-adjacent, and disadvantaged areas. These programs, which have been active since 2019, provide financial assistance for the purchase of owner-occupied permanent residences based on household income and family composition. From 2019 to 2025, the government processed 2,892 applications, approving 2,027 of them and distributing approximately €77 million in grants. Key updates to the policy include a 20% increase in aid for displaced persons and a €5,000 increase in the maximum grant limit for the rural housing scheme. Additionally, income criteria for all applicants have been raised by €5,000, and new family composition categories have been introduced. Interested citizens may submit applications to their respective District Administration offices until December 31, 2027. Full details and application guides are available on the Ministry of Interior's website under the 'Housing Policy' section.
