DISY proposes six-month moratorium on primary residence foreclosures
The Democratic Rally (DISY) has officially requested a minimum six-month moratorium on the foreclosure of primary residences valued up to 400,000 euros. This proposal, presented by party president Annita Dimitriou on February 6, is intended to mitigate the economic uncertainty caused by ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. During this period, the party urges the government to develop a comprehensive protection plan for vulnerable borrowers, citing the success of previous schemes such as Estia, Oikia, and Rent-for-Installment. Additionally, DISY suggests revising and re-launching the Rent-for-Installment plan to accommodate more citizens. The proposal also includes measures put forward by Averof Neofytou, such as providing protections for loan guarantors and mandating that banks reduce the spread between deposit and lending interest rates. The party emphasized that such measures should be implemented using clear social criteria to ensure economic stability. The government has been urged to act in a socially responsible manner rather than relying on populist approaches.
