Incident of violence reported at Limassol General Hospital emergency department
On the morning of Sunday, March 8, a physical and verbal altercation occurred at the Accident and Emergency Department (TAEP) of Limassol General Hospital. According to police reports, a patient waiting for medical care began protesting, leading to a dispute with a nurse who attempted to calm the situation. Bystanders intervened to resolve the conflict. When police arrived at the scene, both parties stated they did not wish to file a complaint or pursue the matter further. Medical unions PASYKI and the nursing branch of PASYDY have condemned the incident, describing it as a systemic failure in the safety protocols for healthcare professionals. The unions have called on the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) and the police to investigate whether existing security and policing measures in emergency departments are being effectively implemented. They emphasized that protecting staff is a non-negotiable state obligation.
