Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus due to rain and strong winds
The Cyprus Meteorological Department issued a yellow weather warning, effective from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, due to unsettled conditions caused by a low-pressure system. The forecast includes prolonged rainfall, potentially exceeding 55 millimetres in 24 hours, alongside isolated thunderstorms, hail, and strong northeasterly winds reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort, with local gusts up to 7 Beaufort. There is a possibility of sleet or snow on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains, where temperatures may drop to near freezing. Authorities have cautioned the public regarding potential local flooding, hazardous road conditions, and reduced visibility. Dust concentrations in the atmosphere are expected to remain elevated until Sunday. While different sources provided varying temperature estimates for the island, inland temperatures are generally expected to reach around 16°C to 19°C. Forecasts for the beginning of the week suggest partly cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated showers by Wednesday and a potential increase in cloud cover by Thursday.
