Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus due to rain and strong winds
The Department of Meteorology of the Republic of Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning, effective from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 15. The island is experiencing a low-pressure system moving from Egypt, resulting in heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and potential hail. Forecasters predict that rainfall may locally exceed 55 millimeters within 24 hours, raising concerns about flooding and hazardous road conditions. Winds are expected to strengthen significantly, with gusts reaching 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale. Dust concentrations are elevated and are expected to remain in the atmosphere until Sunday. Temperatures are forecasted to drop, with potential sleet or snow on the highest peaks of the Troodos Mountains. Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution when traveling due to reduced visibility and the risk of hydroplaning.
