Partial collapse of a listed building in Nicosia

On Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, at approximately 19:26, a portion of a listed building in the old town of Nicosia collapsed. The structure was situated in an open area that was being used as a car park near Apollonos Street. Upon receiving the call, the Nicosia Fire Service dispatched a rescue team, a fire engine, and the special EMAC K9 detection unit to the scene. Firefighters conducted thorough searches both inside the building and under the debris to determine if any individuals were trapped. No trapped persons or injuries were reported during the operation. One vehicle parked in the immediate vicinity of the structure sustained damage. Following the conclusion of the search efforts, the site was officially handed over to the police for further investigation.
